General Data Processing Regulations
Mirfield Music and Language Tuition is fully compliant with EU General Data Processing Regulations. The following notice explains how we lawfully process the personal information of its students.
1 About Mirfield Music and Language Academy MMALA
MMALA is the name for the independent music and language education business, private teaching practice and creative outlet of H Gillibrand. The Business address is 17 Eastfield Road, Mirfield, West Yorkshire, WF14 0QR
2. How your information is collected
MMALA collects information for all new students using a form which asks for contact details ( telephone and email) and name of parent/guardian and student and date of birth . For pupils who wish to enter for exams candidates date of birth and special needs information will also be required, this will be shared with the exam board.
This information is supplemented as necessary by written communications (electronic or paper) financial interactions note taking, event information progress reports, video and audio recordings and feedback from third parties ( for examiner's comments.) Every reasonable effot is made to ensure that information processed by MMALA is secure at all times.
3. How your information is used
Unless otherwise agreed, MMALA only processes personal information in connection with its legal obligations and legitimate interests as a music education provider.
- providing music tuition
- comunication and contact with students
- business planning, administration and accounting
- professional development, research and writing
- promoting and improving MMALA services
Care is take to insure the information stored is :
- used fairly, lawfully and transparently
- only for the reasons for which it is collected
- accurate and up to date
- relevant, adequate and not excessive
4. How your information is shared
MMALA shares information with others where there is a legal obligation to do so, there are also situations which MMALA has a legitimate interest in sharing information, such as:
- when entering students for exams and performances
- when providing references for students
- when facilitating contact between students when requested
Depending on the context, you will be asked for either verbal and written consent.
5. When your information changes
Please inform MMALA by email or text when possible, if there is any change to the information provided or if you suspect MMALA holds out of date information;
MMALA will update all records at the first opportunity,

MMALA does not retain any of your information once it is not required. Your information will be kept as long as necessary for the relevant activity. MMALA also has a legal requirement to retain any information for a minimum of 6 years.
7. Your rights under Data protection Law
The law provides various rights for individuals, these include the right to be informed that your data is being processed as outlined in this privacy notice. You also have a right of access, to have your information corrected, updated or erased, and to object to certain processing uses ( such as for direct marketing.) Where the information is required in connection with MMALA's legal obligations, however you have no right to object nor to erasure.
